Sad day for pit bull owners, particularly those who happen to live in Aurora, Colorado. Chief U.S. District Judge Wiley Y. Daniel upheld the ban on pit bulls Wednesday, despite arguments from the American Canine Federation that the law was too vague and that many of pit-bull incident reports were suspect.
With dogfighting still capturing headlines (my Google search shows news stories running in Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Missouri and Texas this week alone) it will probably be awhile until the pit bull can escape its stereotype as a vicious animal -- one largely created a certain segments of the breed's owners who are neglectful at best and sickeningly cruel at worst.
In the meantime, expect more breed-specific legislation.
